For seven years, Paul has laced up his running shoes for Harrison’s Fund, taking on challenge after challenge to raise money and awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This autumn, he’s making his efforts even more special – by running side by side with his son, Leighton.

On 12 October 2025, the pair will line up for the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London. For Paul, it’s familiar territory – he has completed many half marathons before. But for Leighton, this will be his very first 13.1 miles.

“It’s a huge milestone,” Paul explained. “Leighton has been training hard for months. He wanted to set himself a challenge, and he wanted that challenge to mean something.”

Why They’re Running

For Paul and Leighton, this isn’t just about running. It’s about standing with families living with Duchenne. Their inspiration is close to home: family friend Maxine and her son Austin, who was diagnosed with Duchenne at the age of just two.

“We’ve seen first hand how devastating a Duchenne diagnosis can be – not just for the child, but for the whole family. That’s why we’re running. We want to help.”

Supporting Harrison’s Fund

Through the Chrysalis Grant programme, Harrison’s Fund provides expert clinical psychology support for children and parents learning to cope with the realities of Duchenne. The grants give families the tools to manage anxiety, build resilience, and feel less alone in the face of a rare, life-limiting illness.

By running the Royal Parks Half, Paul and Leighton are helping to make sure more families can access that kind of support.

Looking Ahead

For Leighton, this race is the start of a journey. For Paul, it’s the continuation of years of dedication to a cause that means so much. Together, their challenge is a reminder of what can be achieved when determination and compassion meet.

Everyone at Harrison’s Fund is proud to cheer them on – and we’ll be watching with excitement as father and son cross the finish line together in October.
