When Lisa and Jamie signed up for the Royal Parks Half Marathon this October, they weren’t just chasing a personal challenge, they wanted to make a real difference for families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Their journey began after meeting Maxine and her son Austin at their children’s primary school. Until then, they hadn’t heard of Duchenne, a condition that profoundly affects children and their families. Maxine recalls,

“It’s hard to put into words how much support families need. Every bit of help makes a huge difference.”

Determined to take action, Lisa and Jamie decided to turn their running into a fundraising mission for Harrison’s Fund.

“When we learned about Duchenne and saw how it impacts families like Maxine’s, we knew we had to do something. Running this half-marathon feels like the least we can do to help,” they said.

Every mile they run will raise money for vital projects like Project Chrysalis, Harrison’s Fund’s pioneering Clinical Psychology programme. It provides therapy, coaching, and emotional support to parents, siblings, and carers navigating life with Duchenne.

The Royal Parks Half Marathon offers more than a scenic 13.1-mile route through Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, and St James’s Park. For Lisa and Jamie, it’s also a way to show solidarity and compassion for every family living with Duchenne.

Let’s help them reach their fundraising target and bring hope, care, and support to even more families affected by this life-limiting condition.

“Knowing that people like Lisa and Jamie are running for us is incredibly moving,” says Maxine. “It gives families hope and reminds us we are not alone.”
