At Harrison’s Fund, we know that living with Duchenne affects far more than just the body—it impacts the heart and mind too. That’s why mental health is a core part of the support we offer, through initiatives like our Chrysalis Grants and expert guidance from Clinical Psychologist Dr. Kirsty Gregory.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Gregory shares four gentle but powerful reminders to help you care for your emotional wellbeing - whatever life throws your way.
🌱 1. Self-Compassion
Self-compassion isn’t weakness—it’s a quiet kind of strength.
Treat yourself with the same care you’d offer a friend.
“Why am I criticising myself? What would I say to a friend in this situation?”
You deserve that same kindness.
💬 2. It’s OK To...
There’s no perfect playbook for what you’re going through.
It’s OK to:
Struggle
Cry
Ask for help
Need a break
Set boundaries
You’re allowed to feel what you feel. It’s all valid.
🧭 3. Check In with Yourself
Ask yourself:
How am I doing today?
Have I had some fresh air?
Have I eaten something nourishing?
What’s one small thing I can do just for me?
Do I need to talk to someone?
Little check-ins help you reconnect with yourself.
☕ 4. Self-Care (Big or Small)
Self-care can be big—spa days, time with friends.
But often, it’s the small stuff that matters most:
10 minutes alone with a cuppa
Saying no to something
Having your favourite lunch
Choose what you need today. That’s self-care too.
